Half day: Rimpa and Japanism

  • Harbridge, Court Barn Lane Chichester, England, PO20 United Kingdom (map)

'Rimpa' is not a flower arrangement; it recreates a painting using plant materials by 'Rimpa' artists. This style focuses on nature, using vibrant colors and layering techniques to create depth. It also captures seasonal changes and embraces wabi-sabi, the beauty of imperfection. In this class, you'll learn about the materials used in Rimpa art.

You will also get to know everything about Japanism. Japanism refers to the artistic and cultural influence of Japanese aesthetics, themes, and techniques on Western art and design during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It often involves an appreciation for simplicity, asymmetry, natural elements, and an emphasis on harmony and tranquility.

Half day classes are £30. You will also need to purchase the flowers separately which can cost anything up to £20 extra.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

As the discipline of Ikebana follows a strict curriculum, if you are new to Ikebana, you will start at the beginning of the curriculum for any class you attend. You can find the curriculum here.
